Standard Layout (19 Hexes)

Tile Placement Order
Start by placing the desert tile, then arrange resource tiles outward in a spiral pattern. This is the official Catan setup method and creates natural variety.
Number Token Placement
Place number tokens in alphabetical order (A through R) following the spiral. This is designed to spread high-probability numbers across the board.
Harbor Positioning
Harbors sit on the coastline edges between sea frames. Their placement affects which resources are most tradeable and can shift the entire game economy.
Desert Position Variants
The desert can be placed in the center (classic), on an edge (competitive), or randomly. Center placement creates a natural buffer zone; edge placement opens up the center.
